Jidai Matsuri

The Jidai Matsuri (Festival of the Ages) is one of Kyoto's most important annual festivals, held on October 22nd as a ritual offering to the Heian Shrine. Its most striking feature is the grand procession, recreating approximately 1100 years of Japanese history from the Heian period (794-1185) to the present day, like a moving historical museum.
